Whole Wheat Maple Pecan Scones
These whole wheat maple pecan scones are 100% whole grain and are sweetened with pure maple syrup and coconut sugar. It is hard to have just one!
I started loving maple when I was a kid on family trips to Vermont. Family friends taught us to put pure maple syrup on vanilla ice cream. That combo is heavenly and since then I have been hooked!
The maple flavor of these scones is not too strong but you taste it in every bite thanks to the pure maple syrup and maple extract.
The maple drizzle is a fun little touch but these scones are great without it as well if you do not want to add more sugar.

How do I make whole wheat maple pecan scones?
Preheat the over to 425 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium sized mixing bowl add whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, coconut sugar, and cinnamon and whisk together. After that use a knife and cut the butter into tiny cubes. Next, place the butter into the dry ingredients and then quickly work it into the flour mixture using your fingers. After that, with a rubber spatula gently mix in greek yogurt, almond milk, maple syrup, maple extract, and vanilla extract. You may need to use your hands to knead the flour into the dough. Once the dough is formed, fold in crushed pecans.
Next, form the dough into a circle that is about an inch deep all around. Evenly spread a thin layer of almond milk onto the dough to lock the moisture in. Next, sprinkle a thin layer of coconut sugar on top. Then cut it into 8 equal pieces.
After that, bake for 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
Maple Drizzle (Optional)
While the scones are cooling, make the maple drizzle by combing powdered sugar, maple syrup, and water. Wait for the scones to cool completely before adding the drizzle.

What kind of maple syrup should I use?
Make sure you are using pure maple syrup. It is naturally sweetened with only one ingredient… pure maple! Trader Joes has a great 100% Pure Vermont Maple Syrup.
Is maple extract worth it?
Yes! Maple extract is a game-changer in baked goods. It really makes the maple flavor pop and adds so much flavor. I highly recommend it.
