Caprese Steak Salad

This Caprese Steak Salad is not only a delicious, super easy dinner to make but is a great salad to meal prep.  It is full of juicy tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, avocado, grilled steak, and a homemade maple balsamic dressing.

Caprese Steak Salad Ingredients

  • Flank Steak: I have been loving flank steak this summer. it is a more cost-effective steak and tastes great on the grill! For this recipe, all you need to do is sprinkle salt and pepper on it and grill it.
  • Mixed Greens:  I used spring mix. You can use your favorite greens.
  • Mozzarella cheese and tomatoes: It isn’t a Caprese salad without them!
  • Avocado: I loved the avocado in this salad. If you don’t like avocado, leave it out.
  • Fresh Basil: The fresh basil makes this salad taste so refreshing.
  • Balsamic Glaze: Another requirement for a Caprese salad.

Maple Balsamic Dressing

This dressing recipe makes more than you need for this salad.  However, it stays good for a week so keep it in the fridge and use it on other salads… like this Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad.

How to make this salad

Begin by preheating the grill to medium-high heat. Then, put salt and pepper on both sides of the steak. Grill each side for 5 – 6 minutes.

While the steak is grilling, make the dressing, slice the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese to about 1/4 of an inch thick, cut the basil into strips, and slice the avocado.

Let the steak rest for 5 minutes after grilling before slicing. After about 5 minutes, slice the steak into thin pieces.  Assemble your salad in a bowl or tupperware (for meal prepping), add mixed greens, tomatoes and mozzarella slices, basil, avocado, and steak. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and pour the desired amount of homemade maple balsamic dressing. If you are meal prepping, do not drizzle with balsamic glaze or pour the dressing. Wait until you are having your salad to do that. Enjoy!
